There are two vastly different stories in FEAST.Dahlia is a contemporary romance, with light BDSM, set between a recent divorcee who longs to explore her submissive side, and a just 30something Dom looking for a sub willing to accept his learning curve. I didn't expect to be impressed, but I was. Their relationship moves so fast it almost gave me whiplash, but it is a pace that worked for me with the story, feeding the tweener in me that says MORE! MORE! NOW! NOW! It is expertly written, and engages the reader emotionally almost immediately. I highly recommend Dahlia for a weekend read when you can tuck yourself in and laugh at the trouble these two crazy kids get into together.
Want Not is set in a dystopian future, post the succession of Texas from the US, and describes a society that calls to mind A Handmaid's Tale in many ways. The plot here is original, and not a copy, but that same sense of dread and horror that Atwood's story caused in my heart is recreated here again. It is a memorable story, dark and twisted in many ways. It is a well told story. It is a haunting story. I will be thinking of it for some years to come.
This author intrigues me because she is more than one trick pony. These books couldn't be more different, yet, they are both well written and enjoyable in their own unique ways. I look forward to reading more of Aoide's work.

Feast Arden Aoide 9781544671116 Books Reviews
James is one of those characters that you love to hate. I hate him but I can't stop wanting to know everything about him!! This prequel gives us a glimpse into the life of Grace and James in the beginning and a little of what makes James tick. Although it's a prequel I read it after Sins of Lethe book 1 & 2. I would suggest reading it after book 1 and before book 2 as it adds to the character development.
Free copy kindly provided in exchange for an honest review.
This was a dark, tasty, little treat into the mind of James. I recommend reading A Consummation first, this is prequel, but it's not nearly as satisfying as the full length novel is. Not To Be is the appetizer for us to savor until the next book is released. I have to admit that I love digging into the SADISTIC mind of James and this short book gave me a taste, and I want more.
This is a great cautionary tale. What would happen if the rich and powerful of Texas got to secede and make their own nation without separation of church and State? George W. Bush proclaimed Jesus Christ to be the figure he most admire in all history and his mother Barbara Bush defended him. I wonder what Barbara Bush would think of Grace? Grace is a devoted wife, a devoted Christian, and a very kinky woman. Her husband James is super rich and makes his house his kingdom. He is very cruel to Grace. Their story is steamy and unforgettable.
Not to Be Sins of Lethe, A Baptism by Arden Aoide is a prequel to the Sins of Lethe series (the first two books in the series have been published and more are coming). The series is dystopian--not zombie, post-apocolipsical. It is social-commentary on gender bias, bullying, using religion to control the behavior of a large group and general hypocrisy. I haven't read anything as thought provoking since I read George Orwell. There is a generous smattering of sex and some very disturbing violence, but it is included to paint a picture of the patriarch, James, and his abuse of the absolute power he wields.
The series is excellent and a far cry from most contemporary literature. Reading Not To Be is a good place to start the series, and it is a most interesting flashback for those who have already started the series.
So what we have here is a very short glimpse into what shaped and somehow molded James Agnessons obsessive, compulsive, narcissistic behavior.
My take is the Author created these characters to show what happens when your perception of a loving relationship goes awry, contrary to our beliefs, what makes a man, woman, couple in social settings and the community standards and religious preferences will somehow affect you in the long run, peer pressure lives and breathes.
Although I still think James is the devil in disguise and the Father of all lies as his hypocrisy knows no bounds, Grace seemed to feed him what he later may or may not have become. Submissive to the extreme, a Godly woman, and utterly devoted to her family, albeit a bit addicted to the kinky side of the painful spice of life, she cultivated the seed that grew.
Arden Aoide your mind is amazing, I'm skeered! lol
Not to be is the prequel to the Sins of Lethe World (A Consummation being the first book in the world) that has become a fascinating obsession.
It is unexpected, it is not a fairytale, nor is it typical. It is a deliciously crafted glimpse into the life of a tortured man who may have once been good and the woman who loved him with every breath she took.
As you go into the story leave behind your stereotypes; in that same vein, your perception of what makes a man, woman, relationship, life, good is relative to your beliefs, social circumstances, peer influence, etc.
It is not set in present time, it is a time when women in Texas are NOT equal, their value is in their ability to reproduce, submit and essentially become stepfordized.
The novella and the following series take place in a dystopian society. The year is 2250ish, 200 years after Texas secedes from the United States.
James is the patriarch of the Agnesson family. As the saying goes, absolute power corrupts absolutely.
There is sex, there is violence, and there is violent sex. There is also trust and unconditional love that breeds dysfunctionality at its finest. It all mixes together to make a fantastically, brilliant, wicked and twisted world that I cannot wait to jump back into.
Love to AA for sharing her creation.
There's two very different types of stories told in this book,
but both are equally as good. Although "Want Not" is by far
something very, very different than anything I've read. I'm
really interested & intrigued into finding out what else
happens with the characters in both books..
I'm looking forward to reading more from this author.
