George Orwell said, "The most effective way to destroy people is to deny and obliterate their own understanding of their history." Liberals understand that they win victories today by distorting the record of our past. For all their devotion to the merits of tradition, conservatives think a great victory, such as the confirmation of Clarence Thomas, is the end of the battle. Liberals never concede the historical record, and neither should those who believe in limited government, free enterprise, and individual liberty.
In History's Greatest Libels, Steve Byas takes the battle to the Left, challenging head-on their politicized distortions of the past.
Steve Byas is a professor of history at Hillsdale Free Will Baptist College in Moore, Oklahoma, editor of the Oklahoma Constitution newspaper, and a regular contributor to New American magazine.
He has written a high school government textbook, two mystery novels (Digging Up Bones and Sooner Dead), and his work has also appeared in the Tennessee Historical Quarterly.
He lives in Norman, Oklahoma, with his wife, Donna.

A must-read. One of the handful of public figures who successfully sued for libel, Byas goes back in history to defend multiple personages who were defamed and educate the reader who was probably taught (either in school or by the media) the lies as truth. Among the myths he explodes are that Marie Antoinette was heartless, that Thomas Jefferson fathered a child by a slave, and that Senator Joseph McCarthy went after Communists in Hollywood.Product details

History Greatest Libels A Challenge to Some of the Great Lies of History Steve Byas 9781457539671 Books Reviews
Excellent read. Interesting and insightful. Learned a lot about some very important people in history.
This book is impeccably researched, thoroughly informative, and yet easy to digest. Steve Byas presents his research in such a way that engages the reader, regardless of his or her existing level of familiarity with the people and events discussed. I would highly recommend this book to any reader who wants to take an honest look at history and separate the truth from the rumors.
An eye opening read. An easy read, but don't let that fool you, it is packed with information to give the reader insight and knowledge on a few great libels of history. A must have for any history buff or someone who wants to have a little info tucked away to defend certain miss understood views of history.
Professor Byas presents a concise, well-written, and engaging historical review of some of the greatest myths presented as fact. What I really liked about the book, was not just his view on the topics which I have also researched and came to similar conclusions, but having all of the topics in one volume. If professor Byas' views are new to you, then this book should catapult you to read more on the individual topics. This is a great book for beginners as well as advanced readers on historical topics. Most advanced readers on historical topics don't do primary research on their subjects, but Professor Byas has done that for you. Finally, there are many good books in the Bibliography to purchase as well.
Well written, interesting material.
Very good and interesting. If you're interested in at least 3 of the topics, you should pick up a copy. Not very an in-depth book by any means but it does support it's premises and conclusions.
A short, easy read and well documented. Steve Byas offers excellent proof to back his claims. I hope he will write some more books like this.
A must-read.
